“Ask questions.”
“Don’t talk about money.”
“Be down to earth.”
“Place your napkin on your lap.”
“Show interest.”
“Don’t argue politics.”
“Display personality.”
“Skirts should cover your knees.”
“Speak warmly."
“Use proper titles.”
“Appear comfortable.”
“Sit straight.”
“Make eye contact.”
“Don’t stare.”
Whew! I do all but 3 of these. I'm almost there.
ReplyDeleteDoes your skirt cover your knees, Lance? ;)
DeleteSo much to remember, sheesh! Great, creative take on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteI like the direction you went with the prompt. This reminded me of an article I read recently about the Buffalo Jills (cheerleaders for the Bills football team), and all the out-dated rules of decorum they have to adhere to to be part of that lady squad.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I'll have to look that up.
DeleteCool take on the prompt. I like it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThis was exhausting! Which I think you intended ;)
ReplyDeleteYup ;)
DeleteWOW, I feel like mom is drilling me before the big date so I don't make an ass out of myself. Fun!
ReplyDeleteThat list kind of stressed me out, but I guess I try to do most of them, except arguing about politics gets me into trouble from time to time. I liked your approach to the prompt.
ReplyDeleteGrace! I never went to finishing school (do they still have those?) but, boy, did my parents drill all of this in. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if they still have those...Probably in some form.
DeleteThanks for your comment!
Oh, and "make eye contact" and "don't stare" always confused the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteYou noticed! I wrote the lines in pairs, all somewhat in opposition to each other.
DeleteMy childhood in a nutshell. I love, no, adore, your title!
ReplyDeleteVery cool response to the prompt! I am suddenly aware that Grace = Affability + Decorum. Grace would have said *all* of that. Nicely done! Thanks for linking it up.
ReplyDeleteNice tension between the dialogue pairs.
ReplyDeleteIf not you're doomed... sounds like a good reason to be nervous.
ReplyDeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteGrace sure doesn't leave much room to operate, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI like the negativity/positivity conflict you have written into the conversation. A very thoughtful piece. Tremendous!
