Home

The first time I saw the place, it seemed magical. The unpainted rooms, the gardens not yet planted, the wild yard – a promise of better things to come.

As years pass, it just seems run down, not magical.

The birds remind me.

  1. Ahh, I like the "evolving" tone of this piece. How the magic wanes into reality!

  2. I guess things sort of lose their luster once you get used to it. Glad the birds serve as a reminder.

  3. It's amazing how the simplest things can remind us of how things once were.

    1. I agree. Like how a smell can bring back a memory from long ago.

  4. Ah! When the newness and first blush wears off. So true for many things!

    1. Unfortunately...
Don't you wish the newness could last forever?

  6. What Time and Tide can do to perceptions. I wonder if we lose the novelty of a place this way. Nice way of weaving birds into the post!

    1. Haha! I don't actually feel so badly about my house, but this post is my overwrought way of saying it's hard keeping up with home improvements. :)

  8. Oh, entropy. It affects everything. This is really great. I love the image, and the way you brought in the birds. Thanks for linking it up!

    1. Thanks, Christine! That picture is taken by me when birds did suddenly appear in mass quantities around my home.

    1. Thank you! I wasn't thinking of the birds as ominous, but I can see how it could look that way.
