“You used me,” he said.

The fluorescent lights hummed as they flickered above her.

She didn’t know what to say. Yes, she used him. What made her think he would like it? Maybe it was because she wanted to be used herself.

  2. Nice work. I guess we all project a little. It's easier to think that everybody wants what we want then to admit what we want is different or taboo. (Your picture link is broken. At least for me.)

    1. Thanks, IR.

If by "picture link," you mean the page that the picture links to, it's just the site where I got the picture, which sells lighting. You're not missing much.

  3. It never fails that we are so focused on our own needs that we don't see how we affect others. I liked this!

    1. Yes, it seems to go that way, or the polar opposite, where we're so worried about others we don't remember to be honest about our own needs. Thanks for reading!

    1. Thanks, Jennifer. Yes, that sound...it's like the office building version of crickets chirping.

  11. The sound of the lights built tension in your scene. I liked that you left it to us to decide what she said back to him. My guess: "Not any more than you used me."

    1. Suddenly everything is illuminated in a too-bright, unpleasant light? Thanks for your comment!
